How difficult is it to get into a university in the UK if you are a U.S applicant?

This does not include Oxford or Cambridge.

Hi, Ignore the xenophobe above. As you’ll pay the overseas student rate you’ll actually help subsidise the UK students. Admission standards vary depending on the university and what subject you want to apply for. For example prestigious universities like University College London and the LSE will look for some APs (see https://lfylive.lse.ac.uk/lfy/tc/enquiries/enquiry.html?a=4&q=1188&searchString=) (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/international-students/country-information/north-america/united-states/)

but this is unlikely to be so for some of the middle and lower ranking universities.

I suggest you spend some time on www.ucas.com (universities and colleges admission service) and individual university websites.

Each university is likely to have an international student’s office where you can ask about the qualifications that you need for a particular course.
