1) Read, read, read! There is no better way to improve the way you write than by reading. It is a good idea to read novels (anything from bestsellers to the classics) and keep a journal of all the vocabulary words you dont know in the book. Look them up in the dictionary after youre done reading, and I guarantee your vocabulary will improve.
2) When it comes to writing, practice does make perfect. Write and write whenever you can. Write short paragraphs, keep a journal next to your bed, write on blogs. Even long answers to yahoo questions might enable you to practice your writing skills.
3) Improve your vocabulary by a) finding SAT vocabulary lists and b) utilizing the thesaurus tool on Microsoft word. The way the thesaurus works is that you highlight any word like “happiness”, you right click on synonyms and you get words like “joy, bliss, euphoria”. This improves your vocabulary greatly. It also helps you write better essays.
