Most exchange organizations offer summer programs. Check with www.csiet.org for a list of those that operate in the U.S. or ask your guidance counselor. If you are high school aged, most will be home stay programs.

However if you are truly interested in learning the language, a summer program is not long enough unless you have very good skills in that particular language before you go. You are much better off to do a full year program.

Most exchange years will translate into some form of high school credit so you don’t lose a year. You may have to do some make up classes in American History/government however.

If you want college credit, you would probably have to do the exchange through your university. Almost all of them have some sort of study abroad program.
