Hello, I am somewhat old in the ways of math, but if I remember correctly:
1. (x + y)(x + y) – 9(x + y)(x + y)
2. x^2 + 2xy + y^2 – 9(x^2 + 2xy + y^2)
3. x^2 + 2xy + y^2 – 9x^2 -18xy – 9y^2
ANSWER: – 7x^2 – 16yx – 7x^2
Hmm, this seems about right. Anyway, always remember FOIL when factoring: F= first O= outside I=inside L=last
I hope this has been somewhat Helpful….

=x^2 +2xy+y^2 -9(x^2+4xy+4y^2)
=x^2+2xy+y^2-9x^2-36xy-36y^2
=-8x^2-34xy-35y^2
last answerer didn’t notice the “2” in the second term!

-8x(squared)-35y(squared)
order of operations counts
(@ is the same as squared)
x@+y@-9(x@+4y@)
x@+y@-9x@-36y@
-8x@-35y@
