help me convert the following to y=mx+b?
2x + y – 1 = 0
into y=mx+b.
can anyone please do it then explain to me how they did it?
thanks.

here:
y= mx + b
the given is in standard form: Ax + By = C
where it is 2x + y -1 = 0
so, we are just going to transpose 2x and -1 to the right side which is originally on the left side of the equation…so we are going to have:
y= -2x + 1
where the original sign of 2x and -1 to its opposite which becomes -2x and +1 as you can see on the answer.
but, to make you understand better. you can also use this to eliminate 2x and -1 from the left side:
2x + y -1 = 0
2x -2x + y -1 +1 = -2x + 1
cancel out 2x – 2x and -1 +1 on the left side because it will equal to 0.
so:
y = -2x + 1
as you can see, what we have added or subtracted on the left side, the same on the right side….

add 1 to both sides to give
2x + y = 1
take away 2x from both sides to give
y = 1 – 2x
you could re-arrange so that its
y = -2x + 1
but it makes no difference really 🙂
2x + y = 1
y = 1 – 2x
y = -2x + 1
