No, it doesn’t show as an F. They’ll receive both your High School Transcript with your grade for that class as well as your AP scores. Obviously it doesn’t look good to them for you to have a 1 on an AP, but its better than both a 1 and an F in the class you were taking. If you have a B or C in the AP class you were taking that you got the 1 in, it might just tell the college that “Hey I didn’t prepare as well as I should have for that particular test, and I’ve learned my lesson” or it could tell them “I don’t do well under pressure” depending on how competitive the colleges you’re applying to are. If you’re not a senior, you can always pay to retake that AP test next year to try and improve your score (and if you do so and pass next time, could tell the school “I get back up and try again when I get knocked down”).

I don’t believe AP scores show on your college transcript? I could be wrong – it’s been awhile since I took them – but I believe you decide who to send them to, kind of like your SAT or ACT.

Your quarterly and overall grade in the class itself is what’s going to show on your transcript – the test is to help you test out of the actual class in college. Worst case scenario, you don’t submit the score and you retake the class in college. No biggie.

I took AP in high school, but I didn’t take all the tests. I got into college just fine, and was able to get out of the applicable class by being a TA. Just even having the class on your transcript – with a passing grade of course – is something that colleges look for. Not everyone takes or submits the test scores.

Hope that helps!

Edit – good grief, whatever you do, don’t try to fake a transcript. Many colleges actually do check into records – and if you fake anything on yours, it can and probably will get you booted out. Be honest, but choosy, about what you send.

AP test scores, by themselves, mean NOTHING. So, no, it won’t be an F on your college transcript.

In my 8th grade class, we took a Spanish test– I don’t know if they do that everywhere– and for a passing score, we got high school credit for Spanish 1. Now, on my complete high school transcript, it shows up as one CREDIT, but there is no actual grade. If I hadn’t passed the test, nothing would show up at all– but either way, there’s no actual grade.

AP tests work the same way. I don’t get credit for my 3 on the AP Comparative Government and Politics test where I’m going to college, so it just doesn’t show up. For the tests I do get credit for, I have a count of “credit hours” and there’s a record of which classes the hours are for to see how they apply to my degree, but there is no GRADE given for the credits, nothing that counts toward your college GPA. If actual grades were given, it would completely skew the GPA system– with 44 credit hours total going into my freshman year from all the AP tests I took, and with mostly 5s and 4s on those tests, I would have a hugely inflated GPA before I even started! Likewise, really smart students who just didn’t score well on an AP test or two would have to start out with low GPAs, just for having challenged themselves to take the tests!

So, even if you didn’t pass the test or get credit for it, it certainly won’t count against you– you’ll be ahead, because you challenged yourself in high school and will be better prepared for college by it!

Plus, after the rigors of an AP class, the actual college equivalent for that credit will be easy! So you have nothing to fear. Good luck!

AP scores don’t show on your trancript, you can choose to send them to the colleges you apply to. Even if you get a 5, no one will ever know unless you send them your AP score report. Also, I believe you can cancel your exam score, or if you feel that getting a 1 is a mistake, you can have your test re-graded

No, it won’t. You just won’t receive any credit for the AP score.

Call or write to the collegeboard and cancel or withhold your score. I suggest you cancel it, which means getting rid of it completely. More information is available on the collegeboard website.

You can always take the test again. And you can always make a fake transcript. Nobody would ever know the difference.
