i will be a senior in high school next year now am busy with finding the right colleges. i want to have a business type of job after college graduation. origionally i thought i was interested in business major, then i found out more colleges offer economics major rather than business major, and i can’t really see any difference between them, so what’s the differences between economics and business majors, and which one gives people a easier time with finding a job with better pay after college graduation?

Hmm… Personally, from a foreigner’s point of view (I am a Singaporean), I would choose economics major. Try to take business and finance electives to complement your economics modules. These will help you in your career. An economics education paves the foundation for a career in banking, finance, business, and many more.

Q&A
Economics and Business have nothing to do!!!.. Economics is concerned with the study of the economy as a whole while business is concerned with the study of the business itself: its communication, management, sales, marketing, etc etc…

Economics deals with the choices that have to maid because of the so called “Economic Problem”: unlimited wants + limited resources = scarcity, which implies an opportunity cost, thus, a choice…

Consequently, it wouldn’t be wrong if you say that Econ is the science of the choice while business is the study that permits you to run a company… no more that that..

I would personally suggest Economics, it has much more math and also contains some topics that are similar to the ones in Bus.

GOOD LUCK!!

Ideally, you would select a major AND a minor. Personally, I would pursue a degree in Business with a minor in Economics from a university that is known for a strong business program, such as USC’s Marshall School of Business or the UCLA Anderson School. Universities with strong business schools offer a large alumni base for after college careers while giving you a well-rounded knowledge of the skills needed in business.
