Dual Degee in Public Health and Social Welfare?
I like Health, and I like to help people ( especially the homeless and the poor), I also like to work towards world peace. I’m currently doing a BSc in Sociology, and I for my masters I hope to go for a joint MPH/MSW. In Public health I want to concentrate on Health promotion and education. At the same time I want to work as a social worker – help the poor etc. How do I find a suitable job, where I get to do both these things? or will I have to do it part time?

If you like working with kids, you can look for jobs with after-school or youth programs that have a sports/fitness component. There are many organizations that work specifically in low-income communities that also provide youth counseling like the YMCA/YWCA. There are also environmental advocacy organizations that work on issues like child asthma or lead paint poisoning which also have social outreach components. If you’re in NYC, I’ve worked in the past with a group called West Harlem Environmental Action (WEACT); I’m sure they’d be happy to share some ideas with you.
