Upcoming usually refers to an event that’s soon to take place, e.g., “John is excited about the upcoming golf tournament on Thursday.” Forthcoming may refer to something that’s anticipated or expected, but is not necessarily guaranteed.
“Mary realized she was wrong, but her apology may not be forthcoming.”

Could you be more forthcoming about the upcoming event?
Forthcoming means to bring forth, upcoming means something that will happen soon.

Not much if any at all. The former could be something that will be due and needs preparation, the latter something that is completed and will arrive in the near future.
