Didn’t get Geometry? Will it affect me in Calculus or Pre-Calculus?

I’m taking Pre-Calculus in my Junior and Calculus in my Senior year?(Assuming I pass Algebra 2/Trig this upcoming year and passing Pre-Calculus)

But I know I will study from a Geometry book next summer.

Will it affect me?

Assuming you work really hard in those classes, you’ll probably be ok. It kind of depends on what your geometry class was like. If you had to do a lot of proofs, but couldn’t, you’ll be ok. If it was just algebra based geometry, than I wonder why you didn’t get it. Either way, expect pre-calc, trig, and calculus to have word problems with right triangles and other polygons. Trig is all about triangles, so that could be your biggest issue. Geometry is definitely sort of a unique class. Some people do fine in algebra and algebra II even though Geometry was hard for them. Work hard, ask questions, get extra help and there’s no math problem you can’t do.

P.S.-I’m a high school math teacher. A good one.

Trig and algebra are really important so make sure you learn those cuz you’ll need to be able to do them like you can do 2+2 now! Oh yeah and, just taking trig will probably give you the geometry skills you need for calc (assuming you do well in trig!), so you might not even need to brush up on geom. Good luck!

Getting all the math you can is always good, but the short answer is “probably not.” Geometry, with proofs and theorems, is the only such course in the high school curriculum, so it is the only way to learn these skills; however, proofs and theorems are rare in practical math courses, and you may get all the way to graduate school and advanced calculus before they appear again. Never, incidentally, be afraid of “proofs.” Think of them as ordinary problems where you already know the answer.

There is one area of geometry in which you need to be proficient, and that is mensuration: all those equations for areas and volumes. Learn them. You’ll use them forever.

I would say architecture is a part of engineering which means that a good grasp on math is essential, pre-cal is is like algebra to the next level with the Pi chart and knowing about radians and angle measures (which seems important) but Calculus is the study of derivatives, (the slope of a line at a certain point) kind of pointless no matter what field of workd your going to, if you ask me.

I am taking algebra 2 my freshman year. I took geometry last year, and did not understand it that well. But I have spoken to my friends who took all 3 classes and they said you use more Algebra 1 than geometry. But i would study a little bit of both algebra and geometry, including slopes, graphs, variables, and word problems. Good luck.

When entering into the world of Calculus forget most things you’ve ever learned in math, except for algebra of course.

This is a whole knew world so you’ll be just fine.
