dad too cheap to buy calculator?
my friend anca needs a new ti-83 calculator for school. but her dad is too cheap to buy it. he say that a typical 15 dollar one will do
she tried telling her dad that there was a differnce but he was too stubborn and wont listen.
i have the money to buy my friend the new calculator but her dad has a problem with ppl giving her things.
what should i do???

If you are really willing to get her the calculator, and she’s willing to accept that (or do a trade off for tutoring or something to help you like a zillion car washes or something) then I’d say do that and don’t let the father know. My dad was the same way with that calculator, not understanding the need for such an expensive calculator and took me an hour arguing with him before he finally agreed to buy it for me.
She can keep the calculator in her locker when she doesn’t need it and in her bookbag or purse when she’s not using it at home, and just do her math homework when he’s not around or in a different room or something.

Don’t be so hard on her dad. It may be that he can’t afford the expensive calculator and is too proud to take your gift because it feels, to him, like charity.
I would suggest that you invite your friend to study for math class at your house and share your calculator with her or “lend” her the calculator you want to buy for her during class and during your study sessions.

have her return the other calculator and lend her the difference, if her dad is too stubborn to notice then he wont notice the calculator switch.
