Can I get some advice and maybe some….?

prayers. I am a high school teacher but here in a week or so I will be teaching Vacation Bible School for 4th and 5th grade students. Any advice on how I can connect with smaller kids and is there any preparation tips you can give for getting the lessons together.

Thanks to all who take time to answer!

Hats off to you for getting involved in God’s work!!

I will pray for you most definitely!! May God Bless you!!

Ok here are some ideas :

Maybe get them to stand in a circle and then maybe throw a ball to each other one at a time and tell them that each person that gets the ball must say a name from the bible, if they cant think of a name when the ball gets to them they are out of the next round of play and then they come back in again. you can do a variation of it, ask what you think they may know.

Another fun one is maybe print out bible stories and then cut them into big pieces and give each group(4 or 5) of students a different story cut in pieces and ask them to put it together. Then on person from each group reads the story to the class. Let the story be short.

Also another one could be putting up on a board a small snippet of a bible story on a piece of card big enough for the class to see and on the other side the different characters from the bible and then students get turns to come up and match the character to the story.

Thats all i have for now. I hope ive helped somehow.

All the best to you!! As long as you have God nothing is impossible- remember that as you go into teaching there!! The kids will have fun with you im sure!!

4th and 5th grade students are older than you think. About 1/2 are there because their parents are forcing them, so watch out. Just do as some of the others are suggesting but be prepared for the unexpected.

Younger kids like activities where they get to be active. They much perfer “doing” something rather than filling out a worksheet. Think about activities that incorporate written, oral, image, and three-dimensional components. They need to stay busy and have short attention spans. So perhaps several shorter activities, as opposed to one longer one might be helpful.

I hope this helps. Good luck with everything!

just have faith in God. the kids will just love you since youre an adult. be fun but also have the rule for them to follow. God will lead you through this whole thing. he will speak the words through you to the kids hearts. Trust God, and i will pray for you.

Good Luck and have fun!
