Can anyone answer a few random questions I have about college?

I’m starting college in August and I’m so nervous and I have a few studpid questions. haha

How early should you arrive for class? Does it matter where you sit? And do professors call on random people like in high school? Also, what kind of bag is in on campuses? Tote bags…regular bookbags? Thanks!

As a professor I’ll answer you. Arrive on time, do not interrupt the class because you overslept. Second, sit where you want unless the prof assigns you a group to sit with or a seat. If its class discussion YOU need to particiapte cause if you don’t your grade is impacted.

Most of my students have backpacks.

Since there are most like classes in the classroom before your class, there is no need to show up more than 15 minutes before class. 15 to 10 minutes before class should be early enough for you to get a good seat.

Try to sit near the front and to the right if your professor is right handed so he does block the board when they write. To the left if their left handed. You will find out after the first day of classes. I like sitting about the 4th or 3rd row back so I will be able to see everything and hear the prof because I’ve had a few profs that spoke very softly.

Walk campus the day before classes start and find out where all your classes are so you won’t be wandering lost on the first day.

Most profs don’t call on people because they have a lot of material to cover in a short period of time. Ever now and again I had professors ask a question to the class and random people answered.

I used my old rucksack from the Army for a book bag in my first couple weeks of classes but campus hippies were always giving me dirty looks so I just bought a regular backpack with a special padded pocket for my laptop since the computer labs at my school are alway crowded.

Wear comfortable shoes and clothes because you will be doing a lot of walking from class to class especially on big campuses.

I don’t know much about fashion so I can’t help you about bags. I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. As for classes go, it depends on the classroom in terms of showing up early or not. Sometimes people like to sit in a certain part of the room, I prefer corners, so I show up about 15 mins early so I can pick a good seat. Some teachers use assigned seats which I think is crap, but even if they don’t there seems to be this unspoken rule that everyone must sit in the same seat after the first day of class, which is strange sometimes. Professors do call out randomly, some carry the attendance list, just like high school. It only matters where you sit if your in a large classroom and your teacher has a low voice because then you start asking people “what did she say?” I was nervous my first day but quickly learned that I shouldn’t be. People are just as flabbergasted as you are on the first day and nobody knows what the hell to do. It is really kinda funny. Everyone stares around and at each other like if they have never seen other humans before. : < { )

For the most part, it depends on which college you go to and which professors you have.

-Most professors like for you to be on-time, if not a little before class starts. Some of the strictest ones start class right when it’s supposed to, and some look down on those of us who aren’t always punctual.

-It doesn’t matter where you sit, unless your professor puts you in a particular place until he/she learns everyone’s name. There shouldn’t be assigned seats in college because now you are an adult and should be treated as one.

-Sometimes professors do call on random people. It depends on what kind of class it is. In lectures, you listen to a speaker and take notes. Some classes have notes that you can add to and follow along with the professor. Some are still like high school.

-There shouldn’t be any rules about bags on campus, unless the handbook says otherwise. I always carried a bookbag. Most residential and commuter students either carried bookbags, tote bags, or even just carried their books in their arms. In the wake of the VA Tech shootings, I can understand why this would be a concern on campus. You should be okay with anything.

Arrive on time for class. There’s no bonus points for arriving 10 minutes early unless you want to talk to an equally eager friend. The prof won’t likely be there early anyway, and if he is, he’ll be prepping for class. I almost always arrived 10 minutes late, myself, but I don’t go recommending that.

Some people like sitting in the back, some in the front. If your eyes and ears aren’t great, sit closer to the front. To some extent, people will always talk in class, and it can be hard to hear in the back. I always sat in the back, though, because you can get away with clarifying things between your friends. Also, because I prefer having plenty of seat room.

Some professors will call on random people, some won’t. It depends on your course of study, the size of your classes, and your particular professor. The vast majority of my profs never called on random people. The few that did managed to call on me despite being in a large class. Go figure.

Regular backpacks are still in on campus. Use whatever makes you comfortable. This isn’t a matter of high fashion, and I guarantee that even if you took a purse somebody else will look stranger than you (I’m assuming you’re male).

Congratulations as you being college! What an exciting time! It is normal for you to be nervous. Don’t worry, your soon-to-be-new-friends are in the same boat. You are all having the same questions. If you can talk to someone from the school you are going to attend who is already attending (anyone from your hometown already going there?), that will tell you a lot. But most schools have a freshman orientation where most of those questions will be answered. You might also enjoy any of the various college survival guidebooks you can find in your local bookstore or perhaps library. You’ll be fine — all those who did this before you had the very same concerns.

I’d arrive 5 minutes before class minimum.

I’d take at least a tote bag or back pack or carry my books if I’m just taking one class that time span.

Most don’t care where you sit. I was in on JC college English class in which she had a seating chart. YECH!

Some University classes are in 400 seat auditoriums with 200+ students

Do they call on you, absolutely. They love making fools of everyone on an equal basis!

pass to the 4 twelve months college first. Going to community college would look better, yet certainly your credit hours won’t circulate to the 4 twelve months college. With comprehend to Greek existence and shifting, you will purely circulate to a distinctive bankruptcy of an identical sorority, offering that distinctive sorority HAS a bankruptcy at that distinctive college. Fraternities and sororities won’t have a bankruptcy on the college you’re shifting to. to be certain if a sorority has a bankruptcy at a undeniable college, purely get on the sorority’s information superhighway pages. those are VERY customary college questions. thank you for the indirect compliment.

in university most do not bring bookbags. they usually just carry a binder with a pen, pencil, and notebook. arrive 5 min. prior to class to make sure you get a good seat. Usually sit in the front part of the class so you can read the screens better. Thats just what i do.
