any advice to start off the new school year?

im a junior in high school, and sophmore year, my grades sucked. i was too busy hanging out with friends and not doing anything, and taking TONS of shortcuts. for example id turn things a day late just to get by on some points, and i never studied for tests and quizzes. but im a junior this year. and i need to take some action on getting myself together in terms of friends as well as grades. can you give me any advice for the new school year?

1 – Choose your friends: Hanging out is cool and entertaining, but hanging out too much will be a burden and show up on your marks – as you know.

2- Have a personal, clutter-free surface for homeworks: A personal space is somewhere you won’t have distractions (turn that cell off), which is also clutter-free like a clean desk with nothing but pens, paper and school book (no clocks, gadgets, etc.). Doesn’t have to be at home, it can be at school, local library, etc.

3- Do your homework asap. The more you wait, the bigger the to-do list gets and the more your motivation will drop. Best thing would be to finish homework one day before due date. Personnally, i’ve done it once (one week ahead for university class but that’s because I wrote down the wrong due date)

4- If you don’t understand – Ask. Doesn’t have to be in class so everyone can mock you (which is dumb). Write it down so you don’t forget it and ask your teacher personnally. You can also do it with your homework.

The difference between B+ and A+ – understand what the teacher wants. The best grades are those who completely answer the question. Seize and understand the question, that way, you will have 50% of the answer and provide the 50% left.

You can do it but it needs discipline. The sooner you develop that skill, the better it will help your grades and your career.

Yes yes…been there done that. However, you are starting a new year now. Just know that you can achieve and from what you say it sounds like you really want to do that. It is like starting anew. Don’t worry so much about the friends..that all falls into place somewhere along the line. If you feel good about yourself then people and friends will follow. Good luck this year.
