Agebra Graphing questions?

Im learning how to graph and I was wondering if someone could show me how to solve this and what to do when Im graphing. Im not understanding it very much and the examples are not all that helpfull

re-arrange the problem so the y is by itself…so y=5x-5

then it is in the form y=mx+b

b is the intersection on the y axis so in this problem it intersects at -5 or the point (0, -5)

m is the slope so in this problem it is a slope of 5. Our teachers always told us to think of the slope as “rise over run” so in this problem you would start from the point (0,-5) and go up 5 over 1

(if the problem had been y=3/2x+2 you would start at (0,2) and go up 3 over 2)

x-intercept where y=0…so…plug a zero in for y to get the x-intercept:

5x-(0)=5

so, x=1

y-intercept where x=0, so plug in a zero for x to get the y-intercept:

5(0)-y=5

y=-5.

the slope is always the number before x because the formula mx+b=y (the m is the slope), so here 5 is the slope.

on your graph find -5 on the y-axis (or point (0,-5)) and do rise/run (up 5 over to the right 1) and you will see your next point is (1,0), which will confirm you are correct because the x-intercept is 1.
