Aerospace Engineer and Commercial Pilot?…need advise…?

hey

I live in canada. I’m gonna graduate from high school next year and am planning to go to university of toronto (UFT) to study aerospace engineering. I also have a desire to become a commercial pilot.

the problem is that UFT offers only aerospace engineering while the university of waterloo has a new program that combines a Bscience degree combined with a Commercial Pilot Program that provides advanced flight training, leading to a private and commercial pilot licence.

Would it be better for me to join this program or would it be better to study aerospace engineering and then go to a flight school for the commercial pilot licenses?

would the employment market be stable for commercial pilots and aerospace engineers 10 years from now?

My advice to you is,sit down and write all the pros and cons for each program. Maybe through that process you will see a difference in them and that will help you make up your mind. We don’t know how the future will be for anything, but I can say my husbands company has a contract to make 600 or so more planes,so that will take at least 10 more years.

Out of the 2 options you like, go for the aerospace engineering program first and you might find that you love it so much, that the flying option doesn’t sound exciting…

If you are seriously graduating high school at the age of 14, you are wasting your talents and intelligence by becoming a commercial pilot. Do something good with what you have and leave the bus driving to the rest. If you want to get a doctorate, do it for the right reasons. Being able to use “Dr.” is not a reason (it’s not even the cherry on the cake. your title shouldn’t matter at all). Keep in mind that having an advanced degree won’t do you jack to make you stand out amongst everybody else when it comes to getting hired at an airline. You’d be wasting the degree if you became a commercial pilot.
