About going back to college?

I have attended a community college. I have not attended the community college for one semester. I really would like to go back to get my degree. However, I have been thinking about going to a different college becuase they would have the major that I would be intrested in prusing. My question is should I go back to the community college to finish up or go to the college that has the major that I am intrested in? Is it true about once you leave college you never go back?

It’s not true if you set your determination and decide you want to do it. Most people get too involved with other things (family, job) and don’t go back, that’s why they say that. Going back to school happens a ton!

Go straight for your major. Don’t waste your time. If you know what you want to do, get started.

A true university is more fun than CC, but typically more expensive. Check out what financial aid you’re eligible for to see what you can afford. If doing your full career at Uni is too expensive, then you should definitely consider completing your core requirements at community college. Not only is the tuition much less expensive, but they are typically much closer to home.

IMPORTANT: If you do this, get a transfer guide from the University you want to ultimately attend. This guide will tell you what classes will transfer as equal credit, since codes and curriculum will be different. Some schools also require you to have earned a certain number of credits with them for graduation, such as 60. Ask about that in advance.

One big reason why people often don’t go back is because they get families and they don’t have time. The previous answer mentioned that. Another reason is that people buy things like cars and houses, so with all the debt they’re carrying, it can be hard to get educational loans, and it can be hard to drop back to part time at work for school and still make all the payments.

You can probably transfer many of your community college credits to the college of your choice. Don’t leave that up to chance though. Get a letter from your college of choice explaining exactly which of your courses will transfer so that there are no bad surprises later on.
