is that some kind of an idiom or something? because its my first time to encounter such phrase.

‘Roasting’ someone is a bit like criticising them: only ‘bad’ things are said (to make the person seem ‘bad’. To do so, seemingly hateful things will be said. But, it’s all in good fun. The subject is usually admired rather than hated.
