is ap bio advisable for a ninth grader?
im going to be a freshman. my counselor took a look at my grades from when i took bio a year or so ago in a private school and said he was signing me up for AP Bio. is this advisable considering im takin adv eng and alg2?
ive asked many people who all for the most part agree that its probably not a good decision.
but, the only thing is, the reg. bio teacher is absolutely horrible. he used to be my sister’s bio teacher, and for extra credit he asked her to read a james frey novel…how thats related to bio, my sister still wonders!
the AP bio teach is pretty lax, but im just scared that alg2 and adv eng and ap bio is a tad much for my freshman year? and plus the ap test at the end of the year?
*sigh*

I would not suggest it. You have plenty of time in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade to decide what you want to take. It would probably help you more in the long run to NOT take the course. Assuming you have a regular high school (grades 9-12), you are going to have a hard enough time adjusting to the new school, that you really don’t want to push yourself too hard in your first year. Another reason why taking AP Bio might not be the smartest move is that the more AP classes you take in your underclassman years (9 +10), the more likely you’ll be to “burn-out” before college. Finally, taking an AP class closer to when you graduate will probably mean you remember more of what you are learning when you use that class as a pre-requisite in college. For example, if you pass the AP test in bio and your college accepts AP credits, so you are exempt from Freshman Bio. So you are put in organic chem, or biochem, or a more advanced bio class. You’ll be totally lost because you remember very little of what you learned four years ago when you were a freshman in high school.
I hope this helps.

umm…its not really advisable for you because before u can get into ap bio…u needa have an exceptional background in chemistry, which i dont think you’ve taken yet since you didnt mention anything about it…as far as having a sched with honors english and alg 2 and being signed up for ap bio during ur freshman year…yes it’s really stupid and stressful but if u know how to balance school and fun and everything, then u shouldn’t have much of a problem…apart from studying a lot for the ap bio test of course!
