In high school, what is a verification of residency for?

It is to verify that you live where you say you live and that that residence is in the school district you are attending.

You probably need to verify your residence because people in different districts pay property tax to the district they live in. You probably don’t have the right to attend a school in a district to which you do not pay taxes.

If you are an athlete and attend a school in another district, this could cause problems–your school might be accused of recruiting you, which is not okay in high-school sports. You would have to have a *very* good reason for attending a school in another district, and you still might not be eligible for a season.

However, if you are interested in attending a high school in your district, just not the same one your sister attends, some districts have “open enrollment”–you can choose which high school you attend, as long as there is room at that school. Call your school office to find out. You may need to supply your own transportation, though.

I don’t really understand your question but….a verification only tells the school and well for that matter, the state, which district you are actually a resident of and whether the cut of the pie the state doles out to the schools on your head count is going to the right school district.

It goes on funding levels, the more residents (with children) an area has the more funding it gets. If you go another school outside your district you are basically taking away from the residents in that district.

If you go to a public school you are required to go to the school in the district where you live. Most school want some proof of residency (rental lease, mortgage agreement, etc) to prove you live within their district. If you don’t have this proof…you cannot attend the school.
