Has anyone done a PGCE Cert Ed (Post compulsory education)?
If so did you have any teaching experience prior to the course? How did you find the teaching placements?

No, prior to starting my PGCE year I had no teaching experience. You cannot get actual teaching experience as you cannot teach a class, only observe and help out. I guess if you taught abroad you could get experience as all you need is a degree if that in some countries. Some people spent a year as a teaching assistant prior to doing their PGCE, it certainly would of helped but I couldn’t do it for financial reasons. Placements were tough, I did mine in East London and the kids were certainly more of a handful over there. Get plenty of sleep before you start, that was the only thing I found hard time management. You will find there simply isn’t enough hours in the day. Well good luck with the PGCE.
