I am looking into massage therapy. Is there anyone out there who is also interested in it?

Can you tell me a little about the studies? Are they difficult? How much does it pay? Is it an enjoyable job?

Well, enjoyable isn’t always the truth, but overall, I’d say it’s a profession where you can have a ton of independence and a pretty enjoyable life if you are smart.

But it’s a job, it’s still work…

You have to deal with many different types of people… fat, skinny, hairy, hairless, short tall, etc… Some are “normal” some are pervy, some are afraid, some are ticklish.

It’s not for everyone, but if you’re interested in it and have a natural ability for connecting with people and an interest in healthcare, it can be a great job.

You could work in a spa at a hotel, cruise ship, a million places, really…it’s up to you. You could have your own practice or work with a network of therapists or even for a doctor’s office. You could do sports massage or even just on-site chair massage.

It is a physical job, but not super difficult. Once you learn proper body mechanics (in a proper school), you’ll learn to use your body’s own tools (your hands, knuckles, elbows, knees, etc) effectively and also how to center your body weight properly so you use your momentum rather than just your hands…so you don’t get tired so quickly.

Besides the business and marketing side of building a massage practice, it’s really about people and their problems..whether they just be the stressed out worker who needs to relax, or someone with chronic pain, or someone who has emotional issues and releases them in tears on your table…for some people, I think massage therapy is the only loving touch they receive.

I recommend that you go to Educating Hands School of Massage in Miami, FL but there are tons of other good schools out there.

Find one that’s small and that goes beyond whatever the legal requirement is for the state in which you live.

Even if your state doesn’t require that you have a license to be a massage therapy, I still think you should complete a good school program because there’s alot to learn.

And, chances are, your state will add licensing eventually.

Get Nationally Certified (Here’s the board’s website: www.ncbtmb.com/), and you’ll be all set.

Good luck!
