how useful is the open university?

Yes, it is well recognised by employers as employers acknowledge that it takes superb time management skills, dedication, self confidence and self reliance as well as ability to act on ones own self initiative. In respect to the Law aspect that you mention, I believe that the Open University syncs their degree modules in law with the relevant national organisations (as do all universities offering law degrees). However, the OU is quite explicit about this and hence, a law degree has a time restriction in that you have to complete the degree within 6 years as agreed with such external organisations who manage ‘law’ registeration ect. If you go to their webiste, you can select the option for the ‘open university law school’ (not sure of the precise wording!) and you will find more detailed information present there.

All Open University courses are widely highly regarded with many major global corporations sponsoring their employees on such courses to aid their careers. Maybe a law firm would be willing to sponser you? The ranking of classification is higher than other conventional ‘brick’ unis i.e. a 2:2 with the OU is actually a 2:1 in other universities!!

The ability to work and gain valuable work experience and thereby work references is also a strong selling point for OU graduates. THE OU IS ALSO A FULLY ACCREDITED UNIVERSITY WITH THE SAME IF NOT MORE PRESTIGE THAN OTHER UNIVERSITIES…..

I am in my 6th and final year with the OU and have got jobs on the strength of me being an OU student.

decide for it! those open days are casual, and no person is taking attendance or notes. you will get a sense for what is going on in school, and you will even hit upon some new friends (even nevertheless that’s not the point of the day…) savor!

Not at all. As in not even accredited, and you won’t be able to sit for the bar in several states.

Edit: Oops! Spoke to soon. I was thinking of an American distance learning school with a similar name. I’m not at all familiar with most British schools, sorry.
