do you HAVE to dissect bodies when you are a med student? Is it mandatory??

Well I have heard things here and there. I have finished my pre-reqs to get into med school (it took soooo long) and I was wondering, do all med students have to learn how to “dissect” cadavers as a part of their course or no? If there are any med students that have gone through this, how do you or did you deal with it?

Simple answer: yes, you will have to dissect cadavers.

It is the easiest and best way for med students to learn about anatomy, physiology, and structure. By knowing how the human body looks and feels when it is normal, you will learn to recognize when something is not normal.

Bite the bullet and deal with it. If you have problems with the smell, some people find that rubbing a little menthol (such as Vaporub) under their nose helps to distract them.

This depends on curriculum you apply. ( or countries ) In my country, all medical students have to dissect bodies. At first we feel afraid but then we get used to it. And we give much respect to these who dedicate theirs bodies to the medical education. And we manage their funerals.
