Online University- transfering credits?
I’m thinking of starting classes at a Canadian online university. It’s fully accredited, and held in fairly good regard. ( http://www.athabascau.ca/ ) In a year or so, I have the oppurtunity to move to the U.S. permanently. The Canadian online school is also accredited in the U.S. by the MSCHE (it’s the only Canadian U accredited in the US). I realize admissions are a school by school basis, but in general, do you think I’d be able to transfer the online credits to an American brick and mortar university after I move to the U.S.?

The accrediting organization MSCHE (Middle States Commission on Higher Education) is a respected accrediting body in the US. That bodes well for you.
It appears this is one online school that is legitimate and is accredited by another legitimate organization. I would think the chances of coursework transferring would be good.
There might be problems in transferring advanced work in your specific major, but that can be a problem with any school anywhere because the upper level courses are often specifically built to work together and schools may want you to do that work at their institution. However, general electives should be fine for transferring if your grades are good enough.

Since Athabasca University is accredited by the Middle States Association, one of the six regional accreditors in the United States, there should be no problem transferring your credits
