How hard is it to learn the Piano?

The man on the infomercial I saw teaches only the treble clef notes (mostly the right hand) while teaching only chords in the left hand. You will still have to learn the 3 (or more) notes for each chord and know where they are located on the keyboard. This method is used frequently in “fake books”. Chords are learned with ANY method, but the “traditional” methods have you reading the actual pitches of the chords, instead of the chord symbols. I do not think that this method is any easier, it is just different.
What is your goal with playing the piano/organ? What type of music do you want to play? Fake books are generally done for jazz and older standards. Sometimes also for current popular music. Traditional methods do align more with teaching classical music.
Learning to read music properly will help with ALL types of music, so I suggest doing so. Learning to play the piano usually takes years. Have patience. Practice. You will see yourself improve.
