9th grade stuff… help?

I have never failed a class before… and i am going into the 9th grade this year.. and i totally do not understanf Algebra. If they tutor me i MIGHT (slight chance) that i might get some of it. But when they leave… i forget everything. I just do not understand it at all. My parents even bought me one of those $80 math programs for the computer… and i still dont understand it. I have had problems in math before… but nothing like this… in other stuff in math i would understand enough that would get me to pass. but in algebra. i dont even know enough to even pass…. what should i do…

– failure.

The first thing to do is to get rid of he failure mentality that you have. You appear to be so concerned that you canot grasp math that it will interfere with and actually prevent you from learning.

A number of successful Math experiences will not only teach you some Math but change the aura of failure.

The question is how can you learn math.

You apparently have had some good experiences with learning Math by using a tutor. The disadvantage is that you forget what you have learned when the tutor leaves.

First, you need to make sure that you understand and become adept at the fundamentals.A major reason that students do poorly in Math is that they do not have the background and since math is in many cases sequential they cannot grasp or remember the new work. The suggestion is to go over past work and see that you understand it. It is good that you ask now since you may have more time during the summer vacation. While worry is bad, as explained above, it does have its good point in that you show concern about doing well.

There are methods for you to receive additional math help that you recognize is needed. Such as

frequently review your work

have friends, parents, or neighbors assist you

many schools have extra class time for math

speak to your guidance counselor and math teacher and ask for help

many schools provide after school help sessions

hire a math tutor who is knowledeable and encouraging

there may be free tutoring given by sosical and religious organizations

there are free on line tutoring sites one that has live teachers is at www. pathwhelp.org, another that provides for the posting and answers to questions is www.jiskha.com and of course you can post specific math questions here at Yahoo.

I hope that you follow at least som of these suggestions and that you meet with success in Math

I would talk to your school counselor about it. They have tutors at the school rather they be actual teachers or peer tutors. They would be able to help. Also, you’ll probably have to study a lot more than other people. Just keep trying and never give up.

A small binder for each of your training, some paper, dividers, pencils, highlighters. rather plenty it for fundamentals, yet **dissimilar instructors will inform you what to have for sophistication the 1st day of school, so do no longer purchase all your stuff suitable away…!** information for highschool: a million. Be open-minded. 2. seek advice from anybody. try this and human beings will often such as you.

Basic Algebra is an option in most high schools. Algebra was hard for me too, but if you suck at that, chances are you will do fairly well in geometry.

I’m sorry. I know how you feel. I failed algebra 3times. I don’t know if your school has this but you could ask your teacher or counsler if they could put you in basic math (something like that)instead of algebra.

yeah, i’m terrible at math too. i took algebra in 8th grade and geometry this past year though. but honestly, algebra seems really complex at first. it takes a few weeks (maybe months, idk) to grasp the concept. but once that happens, you start to wonder why they didn’t teach it to you in like 1st grade. it makes math so much easier.

EXCEPT FOR SLOPE!

I HATE SLOPE!

yes, watch out for slope. i loathe it. i don’t care that y=mx+b, nor will i ever care in the future.
