The US was initally neutral during the very beginning of WWII because after the WWI the country went into a mode of deep isolation and wanted to keep out of european affairs.

The depression that happened in 1929 and all throughout the 30’s only reinforced the desire to not get involved in european affairs. Many people wanted to concentrate on solving the problems in the US rather than get caught up in Europe’s problems while seeming to ignore our own. Though the US government did send arms, money and also gave political support to the british government in a bid to stop Hitler.

The US entered the war on the side of the Allied Powers with Britain and the Soviet Union after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on 12/7/1941. Japan had officially declared war with the US on that date hours after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and then Hitler declared war on the US a few days later.

Once war was declared the US went into full war production mode factories were re-tooled for producing planes, ships, tanks, guns, etc. The military expanded rapidly as many americans were either drafted or enlisted to fight in the war.

After WWII the US was the single most powerful nation in the world and after WWII is when the US realized that we could no longer be isolationist in the world. We had the only atomic weapons in the world and were trying to rebuild Europe and Japan afterward to make them into western democracies. This was so that the causes of WWII wouldn’t be repeated and could be avoided.

However in 1947 the Soviet Union detonated it’s first atomic bomb and then the Cold War officially started.

I hope this helps.

The US was neutral until Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. However, US ships in the Atlantic did have skirmishes with German U-boats, and US lost many sailors. Before the US entered the war on the Allied side, it was already providing military equipment to the Allies as a way of helping them but remaining “neutral.” The Lend-Lease Act created by President Roosevelt provided aid to the Allies. We were the “Arsonal of Democracy.”

After the war, the Marshall Plan was the name given to the US efforts to send money to europe to rebuild. The Soviet Union began installing leaders into the eastern european nations while the US supported the western nations, thus beginning the Cold War.

The US emerged along with the USSR as a superpower after World War 2. The industrial strength along with the atom bomb made the US the most powerful country in the world for a time.

US tried to take a neutral stand! However they supplied the allied forces with weapons and money in order to prevent Hitler from taking over Europe!

The basically waited for countries to destroyed each other enough so US could come in and clean the mess!

Without USA however we would talk German in Europe

Japan decided to attack USA and this was enough reason to enter the war!
