Will this look good if applying to Stanford?

I have a 4.45 GPA and take 5 AP’s and Honors classes, made varsity in 4 sports and I am Captain in two of them. I play in my schools marching band. I am also an officer in the Rotary, Loins, Key community service clubs. And I am the founder of philshopy, CSI, Cless, Astronomy club and our school’s Boy Scout Troop. Most importantly I hold the highest leadership position in my Academy’s JROTC Battalion and am now the president of the Academy’s Honor Code council, which is a unique organization containing a few students that judges our peers when they break the Honor Code rules. My SAT score though is not that high. Will this get me to Stanford?

That’s all great but your SAT score is going to need some work, probably. Also, get ready for your application essay.

Of course most of this will look good. Stanford is looking for energetic people who can make a difference in the world and you look like that type. Today, many schools reject “grinds” with perfect SAT scores.

The SAT scores are a necessary component of your application as they indicate whether you have the intelligence to perform well at Stanford. If you can score mostly fives on your AP tests, then the SAT scores will most likely be of less importance. Another way to make the SAT scores less relevant is if you play sports on the college level.

GPA’s are of less importance today since so many schools have grade inflation. Make sure you are near the top of your class. Roughly half of all students at MIT are val/sals.

You may want to cut one or two activities. Stanford and others like Stanford like high accomplishment in one to three things. They don’t like to see people who join a lot of activities. Think Tiger Woods!

There is still time to improve your SAT score. You can sign out SAT prep computer disks from your local library.
