Ask yourself these questions and see if you get some good answers and good arguments:

– How does education help you prepare for a career?

– If you enjoy a subject or activity, how does education help you continue to enjoy those things?

– What do you think would happen if you dropped out of, say, high school? What are alternative things you could do? (like jobs, volunteer work, college, police academy, etc.)

– How many people do you think have dropped out of school and want to go back? If they want to go back, why do you think that is?

Hope these questions help. 🙂

Whoever said this is an oxymoron is way off. An oxymoron is when you have 2 words side by side which may sound like complete opposites….such as sweet sorrow, beautiful beast, exquisite pain…and such. People will always try to put you down when they feel the need to feel better about themselves. Maybe it helps them feel a little smarter, maybe a little taller, maybe a little better….That is why you must be serious about your education…so that no one feels that they have a right to put you down, cause you’ll just know better. 🙂 Good luck. It sounds like a reflection question to me…

Do you have any goals in life in terms of job/career? That would be a logical place to start.

A more sophisticated viewpoint would be looking at education as a way of learning more about life, humanity, science/nature, culture, arts, history, interpersonal skills, practical skills (like expressing yourself succinctly in writing), etc… and thus learning more about who you are.

Both are good places to start and you can include both in your essay, but I think the most important thing is to ASK YOURSELF QUESTIONS and dig deep for the answers.

Ah… the irony is killing me.

Why not turn it around — think about this in terms of what happens to people when they’re not serious about getting educated and expanding their minds.

The fact that you asked this question is an oxymoron.
