why is college so difficult for me?

You should have a serious talk with an advisor. In your fourth year, you should be taking undergraduate classes (or do you mean lower division?), but you certainly should have chosen a major by now. One of my biggest gripes about colleges is when they retain students who have no chance of graduating just to collect tuition for another year or two – I think it is absolutely unethical. You need someone to figure out how to get you to graduate, to tell you exactly how long that should take, and to monitor your progress so that it happens. Every student is different. I remember when I first started at my current job, I was assigned an advisee who had been there for three years and still had not gotten past freshman status. It turned out that every semester she signed up for more classes than she could handle, got overwhelmed and dropped most of them. The longer it took, the more panicked she got, and the more classes she tried to take. I talked her into cutting back to fewer classes than she thought she should be taking, but she finished all of them the first semester, and within another couple of years (with summer school), she graduated.

When I was department chair, I went through the records of every student in trouble in my department, and gave guidance to the advisors on what to talk to each student about – talk to this one about getting a tutor for math, that one about trying to take all of their quantitative classes at one, the other one about withdrawing from classes. It takes some time, but can have an enormous payoff.

It sounds like a case of your not sure what you want to major in. Write down the things that are important to you and decide on a program which cater to your interests. For example, I majored in accounting my first semester and I didn’t make it to the second semester because I quit. Two years later I realized my calling in a B.A. in International Relations. I’m now going back to college.

Just find something that interests you even if it doesn’t have great marketability.

college is only as difficult as you think it is..if you have the mind set of givng up when things appear to be hard…then thats exactly what ur goin to do…I used to be that way..im sure their alot of resources available at ur school to help make things easier for you….take advantage of them while u can..beacuse when u step out into the real world , ull see that things like that arent always goin to be there for you…ur probably not the only one still takin undergraduate classes…so dont feel too bad…try askin for help from other students or working in study groups..those kind of things really help ….Hope this info helps….
