Funny you should ask that. My landlady’s dogs howl, too, when they hear someone speaking over a megaphone (mobile public address system) and bark when I use my cellphone even when I am some distance away from them.
I think their ears hear tones or sounds that the human ear cannot. Megaphones must hurt their ears because they are too loud.

It’s probably hurting his ears. Harmonicas hurt my ears, and because a dog’s hearing is a lot stronger than ours, It’s probably excruciating to him. Of course It may be singing to it.

My dog’s tail wags like mad when she sings along with my harmonica. If it was hurting her ears she would not be wagging her tail
