easier. It’s shorthand!!

shorthand can be learned in college. you break down words so u can still understand them but they have fewer words =]

Well, “prolly” is a spelling error. That’s how some people speak informally on a day to day basis, so I guess that’s how they spell it.

my best guess is that this is due to popularization of instant messaging programs. unlike e-mails, instant messages are in real-time, and therefore requires a much quicker response. this has led to shortcuts, with “brb” “lol” “afk” being one of the most popular ones. using all lowercase letters like i’m doing now is one of those shortcuts (although all-lower-case writing has been used pre-Internet to look “edgy” such as the original logo for espn 2: the deuce). and once people got used to such shortcuts, it probably expanded to e-mails and other Internet-based written exchange.

but if you see a guy write “prolly” in non-virtual world, he’s prolly just ignant.

Because they’re lazy. There is no such word as ‘prolly’ and it is not a recognised abbreviation, the only one being ‘prob’ when used in concise writing.

They spell it the way they SAY it.

Others spell it “probly” because that’s the way THEY say it.

Sadly, there are a LOT of people that actually talk this way.

Because they are horrible spellers…or they are too lazy to spell it out correctly.

B/c it’s an abbreviation and sounds more like the whole word when you say it than “prob” does.
