Why are art colleges so much more expensive than others?
If you think about it, art is already a tough field to get a stable income from so why does the schooling required for such a field be more expensive? I understand that those particular colleges are more scarce as are any colleges that pertain to a particular field rather than a wide gamut…but still

I think it has to do if they are private, selective/prestigious, and are smaller (and don’t get as much in tuition). A poster said to take art at a public college, but what about going to a public four-year or even a community college for a year or two and taking gen eds and/or beginning art classes, THEN transfer to a private art school if they accept transfer students.

I agree, art colleges are more expensive than others, and my guess is, they are a diverse unspecified discipline. You can’t define it so they are always changing their curriculum, professors, books, technology, ideas, etc. Plus supplies that come along with classes are more than just books and tests, so those add up to the costs.
My advice is go to a normal university and take the art there. Price is the same minus costs of supplies.

Art colleges are usually private schools. They must financially rely completely on its students and donors to pay for its expenses. That’s why they can charge upwards of $30,000 for annual tuition. State colleges, which tend to focus more on majors leaning towards science and business, are subsidized by the government and don’t need to pull in as much money to pay for their operations.
