Who knows how and runs a energy self reliant home?
I want to be completely off grid. What is best ways to accomplish this?

Solar and wind, but if you plan on consuming as much electricity as you do when on the grid you’re in for a shock. The average household in America uses 3 to 6 kilowatts of electricity a year.
You will need to invest a lot of money to install a powerful enough solar/wind genset to even produce half that amount.
You’re looking at an investment of 10-20 thousand dollars US.
It can be done. But with today’s technonolgy its expensive.
If you live in the city and don’t have much room, plan on cold showers, dark nights and much less Yahoo time.

It ain’t easy. I learn all I can about environmentally friendly lifestyles by reading and research. Then you need to find some like minded people to hook up with. The problem is that they too are “off the grid”. I met some people building an earthberm house completely randomly at the library. I guess just go wherever forward thinking individuals hang out and talk to people. Internet sites can be of some use as well.
