Which schools have the best clinical psychology programs?

I want to get my masters in clinical psychology so I am begginning to look at graduate programs and I want to start with the best schools and work my way down. I was told to just focus on the big state schools. Are there any others that I should know about? What would be the top five?

I unfortunately do not have rankings that I can give you just because pretty much all of the rankings are of PhD programs and most of those programs do not have masters programs. A few very respected programs I know of are Villanova, Wake Forest, and William and Mary. Those schools have great reputations and I think all of them also give you opportunities to get an assistanceship, so that will help save you a lot of money. Beyond those, yes, look for big universities but if you just want to be a therapist the prestige of the university won’t matter as much. Focus on how much the school will cost and also if it will prepare you for licensure if you want to do therapy. Also, you may want to look at PsyD programs…the best ones there are Baylor and Rutgers. They are doctoral degrees but they are made for those who want to be clinicians.

Alright, I hope that gives you a start, good luck! Again, make sure that if you want to be a therapist that the program is clinical enough and that you will get enough supervised practicum experience.
