Which is better? Oregon State University or University of Massachusetts in Boston?

You are talking about two vastly different areas. Corvalis is in the middle of no where, the campus is the life. There is nothing around for quite a ways.

UMASS Boston is in a big City, a lot of distractions but also a lot more to see.

Both are great schools and if I were going for Engineering I would go to Oregon State. I work as an Civil Engineer now and have worked in the past with several graduates of both (I lived in Boston, Philly and CA) by far the graduates from OSU seemed better perpared for working inthe Engineering community…but Boston is great as well. UMB will also cost more for living expenses for your time there as well.

That said, this doesn’t tell you which is a better school for you, as this is really a highly personal decision. I always suggest to prospective students at my university that they *visit* the schools they’re thinking about seriously. The truth is, there are a lot of intangibles that come into play when you’re trying to figure out the “best” school for some one, and the only way to figure those out is to visit.

So, call the Office of Admissions at each place, and they’ll help you arrange a visit. Be sure to ask to have the chance to sit in on some classes, meet some students, and meet some professors from your future department. This will help tremendously!

That said, this is *really* late in the game. You should get on this immediately if you want to get those visits in. At my institution, for example, we’ve just about settled out all of the first-year students’ schedules! Good luck!

I think you made a great choice (i am a University of Oregon student) and although we have a big rivalry against OSU, it’s a good school with great credentials. The atmosphere is fun and I think you’ll appreciate the school. I am from Texas, moved to UofO 3 years ago and couldn’t be happier with my choice. I really love the oregon university system. Good luck and I hope OSU works for you.

I live in Massachusetts. UMass-Boston does not have a good reputation around here. You would be better off at another campus or another school. There are plenty of colleges and universities in Massachusetts in Boston too.

UMass. Even though it is more expensive I think the education is better there and you would feel more comfortable knowing that people of your race of nationality are near you. You can socialize easily with your groups meanwhile if you do economics you have alot of places of internships nearby (boston, nyc).

suggest you find out [ask them for the list] which companies recruited graduates in Econ. and/or Engineering from each. Then go with the one whose list you like better.
