I MUCH prefer keeping in touch in written form. I have never been the kind of person who liked to just chat on the phone (even as a teenage girl…*gasp*).

I think I like the ability to think out what I am going to say in order to say exactly what I mean, plus written form gives you the opportunity to edit yourself. 😉

I guess it depends on who it is I’m interacting with.

For example, I have an aunt I love dearly; but I don’t really know what to say to her after a few minutes on the phone. Since she’s much older than I, she still always writes letters. I think that’s kind of nice. So, I have a box of stationery with pretty flowers; and I use that to write to her & other older relatives. They love getting letters, and I have to say It’s kind of nice getting letters in the mail.

As for my friends who live in the same state I do, or close by, I prefer to use the phone. We can spend hours just gabbing and laughing. Emails are not as personal or as fun. There’s nothing like sharing laughter with someone. Of course, if I find a photo or article on the internet, I will send it to my friends by email. But for talking alone, it’s the phone all the way.

Some people I know are friends I made over the internet & they also live far away. With them I always use email. Partly it’s because I’m quite shy with new people, so the email allows me to have a bit of distance. Also, since we met over the net, it just feels natural to keep the relationship going that way. There are several people I have come to care about a lot, and I look forward to getting their emails each week.

So, I guess, for me, I like all 3 ways. It’s nice to have a choice about it.

Email, it seems with everyone leading a very busy life style, this method seems to work better for most. It also saves you a ticket or a crash if you happen to be using your phone in your car (as seen everywhere). So email would be my first choice and of course the land line always comes in handy when you need to say those certain words “Up close and personal!”

definitely by email because you are able to get straight to the point. there’s no dead-air like on the phone and there’s also no need for white-outs or erasers when you make a mistake.

then there’s the added bonus of it being fast and efficient. you can mass email all the people you want and anywhere you want. there’s no longer any need for stamps or going to the post office by 5pm. email is anytime.

one disadvantage is that there is no emotion to it. you can write one thing but it can be misconstruded by other people.

i try to be as careful as possible when i’m sending out emails to people that rarely know me.

Emails. I can type whatever I want and not sound stupid, so I prefer to write or type as opposed to talking to an actual person. Plus, I dont like having to have a limited amount of time to talk and when I type something, I can think about it for as long as I want, whereas with talking, you only have a few seconds.

It depends on who I’m communicating with. People that I feel estranged from will receive an email, but those I feel close to will get a phone call.

emails, of course – especially since I do not have a phone. But when I do manage to get to a phone, I find that conversations can be quite boring and there can be uneasy silences. Besides, depending where you’re at, people can hear you and your conversation is no longer private.

Definitely phone – more personal, more interactive, and it shows that the person really made an effort to contact you and reach you.

Plus it’s much better to hear their voice than just imagine it while reading 🙂
