Where does the phrase “My Foot!” come from?

For example, if you answered somebody saying, “My Foot, you’re going out tonight!”

The expression ‘My Foot’ has been around at least since 1923 and is used to express “contemptuous contradiction.” According to The Online Etymology Dictionary it is likely a euphemism for ‘my ***’ which dates back to 1796.

(*** = a three letter word that starts with ‘A’ and ends in ‘SS’)
