The same place as “GODS” come from, the need to have an answer for something you don’t know the answer too.
Ex. Before we knew why it rained (or didn’t) there was a God of Rain. Same for drought, flood, war, famine etc. I’ve always wondered how long it’s going to take for people to realize that just because we don’t know the answer (yet) doesn’t mean that there’s not one and therefore it must have been God.

Many of them come from a misunderstanding of cause and effect. You see an effect and try to say what the cause of it was. For example, you have something go wrong in your life, and blame the black cat that walked in front of you this morning.
People like to feel “in control” and so do things which helps them to feel better.
