When conversing with people and you do not want to sound boring and reply “that’s nice”-what else can you say?

Other generic remarks could be oh, my! You don’t say! Then what? I see . oh? Did you enjoy that?(say only if the person is smiling) What will you do now?(say only if the person looks worried)
Are they bragging? How wonderful. I’m not surprised. Have they been on vacation? What was the best (or worst) thing that you did?
Telling you how painful an accident or surgery was? Sounds painful. You are so brave. Was it a good hospital?
offering an opinion? Why do you think that?
If you don’t understand the answer. Thanks for explaining, I always wondered about that.
Good remarks to use when your girl friend goes shopping or has her hair or nails done(After you give her a compliment ) is ask: Did you have fun?
See, if you can ask a question even “I don’t know a lot about that can you explain it?” you have a real conversation started and people will seek you out, you will make new friends, and appear wise and wonderful to your old friends!
Don’t plan on what to say, just let the conversation flow, try to be an active listener, it means u listen with ur mind, body and soul lol and once u understand what is being said to show that u understand u could paraphrase certain things said by the speaker and repeat it to him. Ex. “So u were saying that u got it from working of the project …. wow, good move. Just be yourself and try to be more spontaneous, sometimes we plan speeches and we forget the whole thing. once u have knowledge on something then it wouldn’t or shouldn’t be a problem to speak on the issue at hand. So again be sure to listen and everything will just flow
“Is that right?”
“No kidding?”
“Oh, really!!
“You don’t say.”
What is even MORE important than the words you use is your facial expression. If you LOOK bored, it won’t matter what you say. On the other hand, if you LOOK interested (eye contact, eyebrows raised a bit, slight smile, etc.), even if you are bored, then it won’t matter either. You will come across as being polite.
