He was actually called Chuck’s Rabbit, as Chuck Jones drew him, but it would take another three years for him to evolve into the early Bugs we came to know in 1938’s “Porky’s hare Hunt”

He’d been referred to as “Bugs’s Bunny” from the beginning, but it was only in Elmer’s Pet Rabbit (1941), directed by Chuck Jones, that he was first called “Bugs Bunny” on-screen.

Bugs Bunny was created by Text Avery. For the first few episodes he didn’t have a name. Tex wanted to call him Jack E Rabbit, but someone else came up with the name Bugs Bunny and this became his official name. So his original name was in fact ‘Bugs Bunny’.

It says “Bugs’s Bunny” on Charlie Thorson’s model sheet for the proto-Bugs. He designed the prototype for Bugs Bunny, the infamous Elmer Fudd, plus the Rainmaker and the Lady Known as Loo for Dalton and Hardaway

I think that he thinks it is a term of affection. If it annoys you you need to make him understand that even if he means it with love, love is not what you feel when he calls you that. You must let him know that if he is trying to be affectionate he shoud find another nickname for you. My darling husband used to call me Mutt. I started out being annoyed by it. One day I asked him why he called me that. Most people thought that I was very pretty at the time. He said that I was not pretty that I was beautiful and he was afraid that one day I would realize that I coudl do better than him so he called me Mutt so I would not get a swelled head. The logic did not make sense but the way he said it and the look on his face made me know that there was no insult behind it. I grew to feel much better about the name but he used it a lot less once I talked to him about it. Later still it became a joke between us and when he would call me Mutt, I would bark at him. He has now been dead for 6 years. I dearly wish there was still someone to call me Mutt.
