It is very similar, except that we generally major in either economics or business (which is what is often called commerce in Canadian schools). Within business, you can major in something like finance or accounting to do the things which interest you. If you do plan to go on for an MBA, many schools would advise that you do something else as an undergraduate. Economics is a strong option, but since most business is about something (technology, science, design, people), you might do better to study one of those things first.

MBA programs (whether in Canada or the US) accept people with any undergraduate degree. One need not have studied business or economics before getting an MBA. In fact, most schools purposely put together a student body with a broad background.

If you are interested in finance or consulting, then knowing a lot of math will help.
