What to expect the first week of college?

Each of your classes on the first day will go over everything that the professor expects, all your assignments, and what you need to do to pass the class.
Now, something that is particular to your situation would be the event that took place there this past year. Because the situation at Virigina Tech is so unique, there are some things that no one will be able to predict ahead of time.
The best advice I can give you is be flexible. You have lots of time to get the college routine down. Everyone gets a little confused, or lost, or mixed up in the beginning, and thats ok. Learn from all your experiences, and you will graduate a much better person.
As for your first day of classes, most professors will hand out a syllabus and basically read it to you. On some occasions I have known professors to just delve right into the class material without even handing out a syllabus. Those classes are always funny because students are like wtf is going on. Most of the time the professor will post all class material (including syllabi) on blackboard if they use it.

It really depends on if you are living on campus or not.
