What’s wrong with me?….?

Since the Summer started about a month ago I feel like I’m sort of getting dumber. I feel like I’m not as smart as I was a month ago. My grades are all average/above average in the 6th grade. I only went to Summer School once in my life, and I NEVER went to the mandatory After School program for dumb kids. Also, my Illinois Standard Achievement test scores were all above average/average. Will I be fine? Is this just me?

I know the feeling! Your mind shuts down in the summer as far as acedemics goes I think… I was Valedictorian of my eighth grade class this year but right now I can’t even imagine algebra without getting dizzy. XD

I just read for a while each day to keep my mind in shape, play Brain Age or Big Brain Academy, and/or do a Sudoku to keep my mind in shape. Find unique ways to have fun while flexing your brain. Games like Monopoly and Clue are great, too, ’cause they actually take some skill. If you take a second language, try reading a book in that language (I haven’t tried this yet, but I’m going to start Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Spanish once I finish the book I’m currently reading). And it always helps to try to learn something new and expand your mind (picking up an instrument, paintbrush, or cookbook are some good ways).

Don’t forget to get plenty of rest, exercise, and review some material from last year in the last few weeks leading up to school (if not sooner).

Best of luck next year!

I think you will be not only fine but great!

It’s normal to lose some of what you learned over the summer, that’s why the first month back is a repeat.

Try spending some time in the library, or find a person you can have an intellectual conversation with – get your brain started again and you will find out you really are smart!!

You will be fine! If you feel that you might be losing your edge, I’m going to suggest that you go to the library before school starts and you can look up anything that strikes your fancy. This will get you into the mode of feeling that you aren’t really getting dumber. You probably aren’t using your brain a lot, and the library will help you. Try to make it to the library before school starts. I live in Illinois also. Good Luck!

Its just you. It sounds like you need a mental rest. Read comic books and relax and don’t think deep for a bit of time during the summer. It should be noted the the real dummies in school would not even be able to comprehend that there might be a change in your intelligence.

i wish you would have specified how you feel like you’re dumber but i would say you’re just going through a phases where you aren’t exercising your brain enough. read, play online puzzle games, do word finds, cross words, sodoku, and logic puzzles. all of this will challenge your brain and keep you smart. if one of these types of puzzle is particularly hard for you, make it a point to learn how to do them and get better at them. each of these puzzles is a different way of thinking and your brain can be trained to think in many different ways.

your brain is kinda like a muscle… if you don’t use it or exercise it enough, it will work a little bit slower. if you train it to think in all sorts of ways and exercise it – or make it think that way all the time – it will get faster at remembering and coming up with answers.

“mandatory After School program for dumb kids” no i think you are already “dumber” dont’ call someone dumb just b/c they are in after school…….

on most standardized tests (especially those in elementary) it is very easy to score advanced.

i would have to answer no to the question you asked.
