What logical career path is available with a M.A. in International Human Rights law?

I’m considering this:

I want to help in a humanitarian capacity but it seems there is a lack of logical career paths in this arena where I can work for 30+ years.

It depends if you want to practice law, because a Master of Arts degree usually won’t qualify you to do so. But you could work on the policy advocacy side of the law, or teach. Hot topics in human rights law right now are getting more governments to recognize and implement the “Responsibility to Protect,” as well as the question of expanding the enumerated rights recognized under the UN human rights treaty system. There is also the issue of international development and the human rights approach to development vs. the traditional pure economic approach. If you focus your research interests in these areas, you should find opportunities for work in the future.
