PPST, Praxis — and any subject tests that may come up. Also, I don’t think you can take it for free; however, you may want to contact your financial aid office or the testing company to find out about fee waivers. For the GRE (for grad school) they go by income and give out test fee waivers.

Just be prepared and study. Get plenty of rest before the test, and I’m sure you’ll do just fine.

Best of luck!

The Praxis is the answer you keep getting BUT that is the test you take AFTER you have completed your bachelors of education degree for your certification. The test that is commonly taken for entrance into a teacher preparation program is called the C-Base. I’m not sure if these are still given or not. They were when I entered my program in 1993.

Neither of this tests, or any admission tests are available for free. You can often download study guides from their websites which includes sample questions.

Good luck

Most states accept the Praxis I and Praxis II: Content Knowledge.

Then, you have to take the Praxis II: Pedagogy (which is like classroom instruction/management stuff) during your first year as a teacher.

In WI we have the PPST, and it’s like an 8th grade level reading/language/math test. Kinda sad when someone is allowed to take it over 3 times to pass it, and then is allowed to teach!

If you have trouble passing just one section, you can pay less to retake just that part. GO FOR IT!

In an effort to facilitate the movement from one state to another, the UK College of Education will attempt to collect the teacher certification requirements for the 50 States. We recognize that States are continually revising their teacher certification/licensure rules and requirements. This page is intended to help you gather planning information on states of your choice! You might want to look at the certification requirements and later look for position announcements in the State. Good luck in your search!!

There are different exams available nationally, like the Praxis I (general) and Praxis II (subject-specific), but many states have their own. No, you couldn’t take it for free to see if you could pass it. Refer to your own state certification requirements for more information.
