A monument is similar to a memorial but a monument usually has historical importance, as in it is old. A memorial is designed to preserve the memory of a person, persons, or event. But both are used to preserve and remember the past.

A MONUMENT IS GENERALLY MADE OF STONE AND IS PLACED IN A CEMETARY (A HEAD STONE) A MEMORIAL IS USUALLY A PRAYER SERVICE WHICH CAN BE HELD IN A CEMETARY, OR A CHURCH/TEMPLE OR IN THE FUNERAL HOME.
