In most cases, anyone who wrote “in their own write” would be simply ignorantly misspelling the idiom. However it is the kind of misuse of language that— when it is not reflecting ignorance—is something of a cerebral writer’s joke. A joke about writers TO writers, using “in your own write to mean “in your own words.” (or “their own”) Don’t be mislead into thinking it is a correct usage, however. It is still just a play on words.
Here are a couple of actual use examples in the following titles:
FSOs, In Their Own Write (a list of writings by foreign service officers) http://www.afsa.org/fsj/nov00/honleybooks.cfm
In their own Write (University website on communications) http://www.uiowa.edu/~ptimes/issues02-03/spring02-03/writing.html
Stars in their own write (article about notorious people who become writers) http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,962027,00.html
In their own write, is not a good phrase, perhaps in their own writing. Meaning they did the writing in question.
