What is the best web site to use if I’m trying to teach my 3yr old the basic letters, colors, and numbers?

Is there something in the form of multiple choice, but not a game that uses time, she need to learn at a slow pace.

Well. I’m sure you don’t want a lecture, but I do have to say that you are better off not teaching these things directly or with computer games. Take advantage of daily activities to teach them. “Will you wear the blue shirt or the red shirt today?” “We need 4 napkins for the table. Let’s count them together.” “Look at this recipe – it says we need 2 cups of strawberries. Help me measure and count them.” “What does that sign say? Right – it’s red and says S-T-O-P: STOP.” “Let’s put your name on your drawing. You can write it – I will help if you want. What’s the first letter? That’s right! An “L”.” Do puzzles, play with large colored beads and blocks, talk about the shapes, colours and numbers you encounter daily and in play. You get the idea . . .

But if you REALLY want some websites:

http://resources.kaboose.com/games/read1.html

http://www.gamequarium.com/gamejrindex.html

http://www.learningplanet.com/

http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=10&e=gamesLanding&mcat=game_infant,game_toddler,game_preschool&site=us

Also very good are computer programs you can buy. My dd went through many of the Reader Rabbit programs. Jump Start and Fisher Price also have some good toddler/preschool learning games.

Though I agree that there are other things to use besides websites, they are not taboo! Computer use actually helps with thinking etc, because it is interactive. Some of the best sites I’ve used with my daughter for learning letters are (20months) are:

www.starfall.com

www.sesamestreet.com

We do these sites once or twice a week, she LOVES them, and is starting to remember some of the letters and sounds because of the associations made that you can’t do at home.

Hm…I agree with the other people. Using websites to teach a three year old isn’t the best thing. My brother used to use it, but all he did was go on to play games! I think you should just teach your kid the alphabet and numbers by just reciting it with him and showing him what they look like. Maybe you could buy him some flashcards too.

Fisher Price has a good site, but my two year old is singing ABC song..She got it from YOUTUBE videos.>If you search you will find some good kids video for letters numbers or anything that you can think of

Good Luck

http://www.fastq.com/~jbpratt/education/links/preactonline.html

this lists several preschool websites that you can explore to see what would be best for your daughter.

if you would like some things to do off the computer, I would recommend www.preschooleducation.com ( and they have a great newsletter as well) and http://www.dltk-teach.com/

these are two of my favorites 🙂

anyway, hope that helps some!

no sites, but check for software (cd’s) at a store that involve learning and pick one out with her
